I've just been reading (and writing about) coffee in that era from the perspective of its preparation and use at sea, particularly as described by Patrick O'Brian in the Aubrey/Maturin novels. Much of his material was drawn from contemporary sources and are quite revealing in demonstrating the attitude towards coffee. I’m very jealous.
