It's a sad inevitability of the modern world where convenience and price are put before quality by the numbed masses. The only way to slow the rot is to keep the standards high in the independent sector and offer everything supermarkets are rubbish at; customer service, quality and character. Passion, knowledge and humility also help make a product customers will return to again and again.

Use them or lose them. It's as simple as that.

That Purple Love Week is a fantastic concept. Although I don't think our independants here in NZ struggle as much as yours do in britain by the sounds, we're probably not far behind.

Thanks for the write up and all the pics James. I enjoyed the day far more than I'd expected and it was nice to see all the competition crowd again, though I wish there were more repeat competitors. Now trying to prepare for Purple Love Week (google it..it's a great idea) and finalise a VAT return whilst tweaking my speciality and preparing for the half term bedlam that is the bedrock of the Cornish economy.

Currently working on how to get to London, do the finals and get back to Cornwall in the space of 36 hours... I think we'll have to shut Relish for the Monday to allow a little night out after the comp. There's a great eatery called Wapping Food we want to make a pilgrimage to.

Best of luck, not that you'll need it, in your regional. Hope you get the bits you need for your special!

See you at Excel.
