Being fairly much a coffee newbie, I'm trying to learn as much as I possibly can. Quite a few ppl told me to read Scott Rao's, Professional Barista's Handbook.

Would love to know how you would rate it in comparison to David Schomer's Espresso Coffeefor someone trying to learn the ropes. Although I guess it can't hurt to read both of them.
Enjoying the blog immensely, great tool for learning.

I have the book somewhere, but not in English! I suspect it is a great book (from my limited reading of it!)

Thanks for the kind words - and hope everything goes well with the roasting!

not a coffee taster's book by any stretch, but a valuable critique of the Fair Trade model:

Brewing Justice by Daniel Jaffee

"Fair trade is a fast-growing alternative market intended to bring better prices and greater social justice to small farmers around the world. But is it working? This vivid study of coffee farmers in Mexico offers the first thorough investigation of the social, economic, and environmental benefits of fair trade."
