UK Vs Ireland Barista Competition

This is happening next week – Monday 3rd til Tuesday 4th – in Dublin. I am apparently going over to do some training first which should be good. Stephen Morrissey is in charge of the other team.

I look forward to Team UK oblitterating them, though the blind latte art bit sounds odd. I will no doubt cover myself in hot milk in a feat of effortless stylishnes…

Trying to get over to the Fat Duck soon because I want to try and get hold of some single molecule aromas and they have contacts at Firmenich.
Also they have bitter blockers (which remove your tongue’s ability to bind with bitter chemicals but do so for rather a long time) which I want to try and then taste coffee with, to see what coffee would be like if it wasn’t at all bitter.

    I’m not in charge of the team, Dara Flynn of the Insomnia chain , and Irish chapter of SCAE is the coach. Though to say coach would suggest that we’ve been practicing, which would in turn suggest that we actually consider the UK team a worthy challenge. Just saying,…..
